Strange scary bloke on a plot
« on: May 01, 2009, 17:22:51 »
I was at the allotments quite early this morning and I thought nobody else was about.......until I happened to glance over to a plot and saw this man standing there.

I wish people would tell me when they are putting their scarecrows up!

I bet someone will nick the suit, tie, shirt and hat soon.  I agree, very, very scary, but only to us, not the lovely pigeons, they are scared of nothing.

He is better dressed than anyone else on the site!
Talking of pigeons, a racing pigeon turned up on my neighbour's plot and wouldn't leave.  He carried it to the far end of the site and it just returned to his plot.  I sent the number off to a racing pigeon site and they emailed me back to say it was from Barnsley (I am in Birmingham)

The worse thing about that is if it does get sent back to its owner, it'll probably get necked. >:(

Oh no, I wish I'd known that before we sent it on its way on Saturday.  The owner phoned me after I contacted the racing pigeon website and said that if we could take it about 4 miles away from the allotments and release it, it would find its way home so that's what we did.
He said he would phone me when it got back.  No phone call so far.

There is a chance that it won't happen but pigeon racers don't like pigeons that get lost and as with other sports that involve animals, there is no room for sentimentality and if they aren't worth owt...

Hopefully it'll get a second chance and this was a one off.

The owner sent me a packet of cauliflower seeds as a "thank you"!
He said that as of Wednesday, the pigeon hadn't got home.  Not sure if that's true or not, or maybe it's gone to the great big pigeon loft in the sky.... :(
