Straggly toms
« on: April 07, 2009, 16:10:15 »
I've been growing toms for some years but have never started them so early. I'm now worrying that they'll 'stop' if I don't pot them on and also whether some are even worth potting on given that they seem very straggly. Any opinions?

Here's a pic...

I think if you pot them on into say 6" pots and bury them as far down the pot as you can get them they will be ok .. All the stem thats buried will produce roots ...

Cheers .. Jim

Ditto. You can put tomatoes "on hold" for weeks. I might even be inclined to use 4" pots now then put them into 6" in a few weeks time, when the roots start poking out the bottom.

And don't starve them of light, as that encourages them to go leggy.

They look well healthy to me-but maybe time to pot on?

Occurs to me that, since they're in Root Trainers, you'll need the bigger pot now to get the depth?

They look fine except they need potting on. I've only just started mine, but I don't have space to grow them on for long under cover.
