Would anyone like an allotment in Harrow?
« on: March 29, 2009, 20:16:25 »
We've just found out that there are two sites in the London Borough of Harrow that are abandoned.  It looks as though the council are turning applicants away on the grounds that the plots are all taken, but they are not.

The sites are (from http://www.harrowinleaf.org.uk/sites.html )

Paulhan Road  ( http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=517545&Y=189364&A=Y&Z=1 )
Paulhan Road North is reached by side of 52 Paulhan Rd, Kenton HA3 9AS
24 plots
Site Representative needed on this site!

Pleasant Place ( http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=514621&Y=186935&A=Y&Z=1 )
Behind flats in Lower Road; the entrance is by 2 Shaftesbury Avenue, Harrow HA2 0PH
21 plots
Site Representative needed on this site!

Here are some pictures that we took this weekend http://www.flickr.com/photos/jznorman/sets/72157616089339324/

Apply here - and don't take no for an answer! http://www.harrow.gov.uk/allotments

this time last year there was just 3 plot holders on the site 2 active and one not so . then i got one and took interest

mine's the green one in the middle plot 16

now wot ive done is worked hard and turned the allotment into somthing that is neet and tydy . i dont just work my plot i mantain the site and Nick Porter the consil chap is working with me to get the site up and running even better . im also attending all of the other(thats once every two months) monthly meetings at the town hall
so far i have acheved  for our site new toilets , new water tanks . regular collection of rubbish , ive managed to blag a sit on mower (my son loves driving it and we keep the grass cut on ALL the unused plots),
ive blagged a trailer that can be used for collection of horse poo etc . plus ive got collection for poo on two horse fields . ive sorted out deals at gardening centres blahh blahh blahh .  If you dont ask you dont get  ;D

im looking after my site and we now have 11 plots taken

so my advice to you is not only look after your own plot but look after the site aswel  ;D ;D

Ps: your always welcome to visit my site .  ;)

Just had a quick look round the Harrow in leaf site, and reading between the lines it would appear that harrow council who run the sites don't know what's going on on the sites. They may well have lists which have a name on each plot, but no idea if they are really being used or even if rent is being paid.

This is truly a sorry state of affairs when waiting lists of many years are being quoted.

And I thought our local council was disorganised..!
