chickens in the city
« on: March 01, 2009, 11:39:34 »
where can i find out about the law on keeping chickens -  i live in a terrached house with a long narrow garden at the  back - estimate it to be about 25m long -  if i keep chickens right at the back (less than 5)  can anyone help me with the issues i might get ?

was thinking -  neighbours might complain (if too noisy or stinky)
rats
cats
never seen any foxes
anything else ?

just an idea at this point ...

land registry would be a good start, see if you are allowed to keep em, might be something on your deeds that says "no livestock"

A lot of people are keeping hens now, 5 or less can be classed as pets, but do have a word with your neighbroughs as a lot of people have found neighbroughs can complain.
If they say about the noise tell them you wont have a boy just girls they dont make such a noise. Also say you will sell the spare eggs it is hard to get fresh eggs.
Clean them out on a regular basic's the stuff can go into the grey bins for recycling.
Store their food in bins with lids so rats/mice cannot get to it.
If you have them pen in runs cats/foxes cannot get to them.
