Introducing 'Big Bird' the stress reliever
« on: February 02, 2009, 18:10:57 »
To keep this simple I have two very good friends who live next to each other with a shared garden.  One has the house (M&S) and the others rent their gite whilst they house hunt (N&C).

M&S have kept poultry for years, and usually eat the cockrels and eventually the hens.  They breed all their own.  They 'inherited' a huge cockrel with an even bigger personality...  "Big Bird".

N&C have had nothing to do with poultry but love them.  When we were out the other day C mentioned that Big Bird comes in for toast every morning.  She works from home and alot of her work involves selling.  Obviously in the UK climate it is very difficult.  When she has had a real gut-full she goes outside and calls Big Bird.  He always runs full pelt, wings and head down, to her.  She always shares a biscuit with him.

The best one was a few weeks ago when her elderly dad was staying.  She went to put out the rubbish and Big Bird nipped in to try to eat the cat's food.  She went in, startled him, and he kept jumping up and down in a litteral flap.  She kept saying 'calm down Big Bird' and trying to escort him to the door.  Her dad rolled his eyes as if to say 'typical of my daughter'.

He is really huge, the picture does not do him justice.  His is not destined to for the pot, and we are looking at having one of his lads for our girls.

He looks in super condition and sounds like a real character - We can't have a cockerel it would just be too noisy  :o but they are lovely looking

He sounds a great character!

I think it's lovely to hear of someone keeping boys - so many are "disposed of"  (eaten).

When I win the lottery and buy my big garden (with house) in the country - I will give one a home!
