Topic: making bird box, need help

I'm having problems working out an angle

its a 6 sided box i'm reasonably sure the mitre for the sides needs to be 30deg but for the roof
i get a nice peak on it if i use 50deg for the point on the triangle but i cant for the life of me work out what
mitre i need to make the joins on the roof neat.
can anyone tell me either how to work it out or what the answer is :) please

yeah thats my problem, do you know how i would work it out?
50deg for the 6 pieces gives me a 30 deg gap from the floor

is that any help?

couldn't you built a model out of card and keep cutting the triangles until you get something that looks right? Another time i'd try and work it out, but i'm struggling with an headache. a Netto wine headache ???

trig is that sine cos and tan type stuff?
i have a table for them from school, smp its ancient but i guess they are still the same:)
so if they are the right thing i can do that.

sorry lbb - i thought you wanted to know the angle of slope of the roof for a given angle of the roof pieces. You want to know what angle to cut the roof pieces so they fit together exactly

I *think* it's the same angle as the slope of the roof, if that makes sense. I'll try and find some triangles and have a play  :D

done it, but it's complicated, and it's not the angle of slope, neither. If I were you i'd guess and make up the difference with a filler  :D

Have made loads of 'em.

The usual angle joining pieces to create a roof is the same as used to create a corner, that is; 90dg. To get that you need to make the angle 45 on each piece.
 If that's too complicated, do a butt joint, one piece butted under the other. Just make sure the top piece is longer by the thickness of the board than the under one.
Clear....... ???
