Sunny Scunny Plot
« on: November 17, 2008, 14:48:49 »
I Got a plot about Feb this year,

I have had some good Veg this year,

Potatoes,
Earlies rockets, second early kestrel, and then main crop ,Desiree.
I was very disappointed with.

The Veg included
Carrots, Parsnips, Cabbage,Onions, Leeks, Marrows, Runner Beans,

I decided  to build a 6' cube out of corrugated clear plastic sheets. this would substitute for a greenhouse, I grew two cucumber plants from seed and had lots of cucumbers from them. I tried several varieties of tomato and again in the cube I had lots of toms.

Just this week I have started to move things around to try and rotate the crops.

I use a raised bed type system which makes life alot easier.

Welcome to A4A- if your name refers to your digging skills, you're welcome at my plot any time! You did well to get all that veg if you only got your plot in Feb- must have been hard work to get it ready for planing in time!

I think I got the plot at just the right time, and the fact that there are a couple of old boys that have been fantastic, and are more than willing to pass on what they know, and to help.

If ya click on view gallery, then click on plot, there are three or four pics there to look at,

It's really easy to build.

hi i just checked it out. wow! its so simple, its amazing more people don't build these for a quicker, cheaper option :).

may i ask, why does one of the beds have such tall posts? do you plan to make it supper deep for hot bed purposes? or is there another reason.

thifasmom.

The tall posts.

Its something I've been experimenting with this year,

The idea is that I will build, different interchangeable sides, i.e netting, polyethylene, Fleece, etc, built into frames.

If you look closely at  the posts they have slots in them, this allows me to easily slide in and out the different frames.

The reason is, because, after  having stapled or nailed netting/polythene etc to the beds and then wanting to change it, I had to try not to damage what ever it was on removal, to enable me to use it again.

I hope I've gone someway in trying to explain it.

well Mr Plough you are too clever for words, what a great idea. i did notice the slots which is why i thought it was for a deep raised bed thinking you were going to add more timber, but your idea is really clever hats off to you ;D.

now i am off to brainstorm how i could customise my raised beds to accommodate something similar ;). it would be great to just slot walls into place according to my needs such as netting, fleecing or mini polytunnel environment for my outside aubergines and sweet peppers.
