Topic: greenhouse borders

Was reading the gardening page today and one of the questions was could you use garden soil for greenhouse borders for tomatoes.  The answer was yes but it would be better to use growbags as there is a better chance of getting a good crop. 

As I have dug out my border and bunged in some manure - I was going to put garden soil on top of the manure - have I been wasting my time?

I have done exactly the same as you, but I intend on using ring cultures filled with compost for my tomato plants. Well flower buckets with the bottoms cut out then partly buried in the GH borders.

which type of growbag did they recommend? (soil is always better!) ;)

Didn't say - it was the gardening columnist from the daily paper that no one admits to reading.

gro-bags don't hold enough water, and if they dry out are a bu**er to re-wet. go with soil is my advice! (see my other thread for images of tom's in the border in an unheated glass house ;)
