Are there specific items you want to find ? as I think you are unlikely to general list. Perhaps looking in some old newspapers in the library.

The best I can think of is the Revenues Indexation chart for Capital Gains (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/RATES/cgt.htm). but this only goes back to 1982. It allows you discount today's valuation to take inflation in to account on long held assets.

In the 1960's  my dad had a low wage job on building sites and
my mum stay at home  until  I was 8, then she did part time factory work.

They were  able to get a mortgage on a 3 bed terrace house in London which they managed  pay  off in 20 years.
Every year we had  a camping or caravaning holiday.
By 1967 they paid CASH for a new Ford Escort.

There only debt was the house. They also had small savings for a rainy days.

No child benefit as a only child. No tax credits(apart from married persons allowance)  or rate rebates.
Everybody could access dental treatment.

Family baths were once a week
No central heating and I don't remember anyboby complaining of being cold.

Now teachers have trouble getting a mortgage!

That's a good link, Hopalong. Thanks.

My £6 6s a week in 1963 looks like this now.

In 2007, £6 6s 0d from 1963 was worth:

£95.02  using the retail price index
£97.81  using the GDP deflator
£211.11  using the average earnings
£252.08  using the per capita GDP
£286.63  using the share of GDP

Blimey Didn't know how well off I was. When I packed up my job in London in July 1960 (waiting for my first born) I was earning £13.10s.0d. My salary was more than Charlie's basic of £12per week.
In 1972 when we bought a filling station/garage in the Fens our 4* petrol was 32p per gallon.

I was -12 at the time!

Intersting how the different indices give such huge variation...

I'm hoping this particular thread stays within the bounderies of 'commerce' but I feel a thread concerning reminiscences looming!
(Anyone want to start that one off?)  :D

Yeah! OK! I will!
Check out the thread...'Yester-year'
