good king henry
« on: March 29, 2010, 17:17:51 »
Last summer i sowed good king Henry direct, nothing grew. this year 4 quite large clumps have appeared around that area, (have googled  good king henry and it looks identical to the one growing). each clump has spears growing with a hint of pink on them. the leaves flavor remind me of perennial sorrel with the hint of lemon. i thought i had skirret growing but now I've goggled pictures of skirret not sure. does anybody know what young skirret looks like?

It's likely to look like any of the other umbellifers I'd guess, particularly like parsnip.  Certainly nothing like good king henry which is going to look very like fat hen.  I'd be very careful not to eat the leaves of any umbellifer until I was totally sure what it was because that family has some very toxic members, even the ones with edible roots can have nasty photo-toxic chemicals in the leaves.
