Topic: Hydroponics for beginners

Has anyone tried using a hydroponic system to raise their vegetables?  I've dipped my toe into the metaphorical water with some success, any others out there? Advice and opinions welcome.

When I got my greenhouse, my 25 year old son presented my with a book on hydroponics - he wanted me to have a go at growing 'pot' plants!  I declined.
