Price rises
« on: September 24, 2008, 16:03:22 »
Hi

I wasn't sure which section to put this in, but while searching about my runner bean troubles I found this blog from a garden centre who have been to a trade show which basically says prices will be rising next year particularly compost and fertilisers. :(

we were told the same thing about composts..we now have 120 bags of 75ltr Mother earth compost, bought by the association and on sale to the members for 3.00 per bag  ;D
we've done the same with blood, fish and bone and seawed meal..got good prices so we should all be ok for next year  ;D

I do not suppose any product in any way, shape or form will escape some sort of price hike in the near future. :(

I was under the impression it was farm-grade compost going up rather than the garden centre stuff. Farmers are expecting to pay £7-£10 per ton depending on NPK values rather than the £5 per ton they paid this year.
Or is this to do with petrol prices which seem to be responsible for everything else going up.

All fertiliser containing ammonia is going up due to the price increase of natural gas which is a component of ammonia fertilisers.

Having sourced two farmers that will supply me with farmyard manure one being sheep poo they are only charging me for delivery, one is willing to travel fifteen miles with the stuff while the other farmer is just up the road so on saturday five ton will be arriving :)

The farmer that comes fifteen miles with the sheep poo brought in eleven loads last year to the allotments but I can't be blamed for that because I was not on the allotments then but I would of had a load of poo off him if I had of been a lotty holder,  but this other chap is just up the road so it makes sense,  their is another contributer to this site who is  not to far away from me and she is quite welcome to have the contact numbers after her offer of chicken poo  ;)
