Wine recipe book
« on: August 09, 2008, 14:30:49 »
Can anyone recommend a good book for wine recipes. I don';t want one like the Boots one where it used grape concentrate all the time. I need some recipes that are known to work so that I can turn various gluts, particularly fruit,  into drinkable stuff

You cannot beat C.J.J.Berrys "First steps in winemaking" It is still in print and can be quite often found in charity shops

I would second that it's a must have book. If you want an idea what the recipes are like then take a look at http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/recipes.asp most of Jack Kellers recipes are adapted from C.J.J. Berrys.
Most of my books are either by C.J.J. Berry or T. Edwin Belt.

I read that some of the recipies in various books turn out too sweet because of the difference between a UK gallon and a USA gallon, the former being larger so the UK recipies call for more sugar.  Too bad we can't be consistent with the rest of the world ::)
