Topic: sweet peas?

ok this is going to sound really  hmm  well like a newbie and thats what i totaly am
but i always remember my dad growing sweet peas i remember them being really pretty   but   are they actually edible peas in there  what kids of peas are they if so  and if not why would alot of the allotments have them ?

I'm no expert but we don't get any peas as we cut any pods off if we've missed the flowers to prolong the growing season , we grow them for cutting as they have a wonderful scent and to encourage bees to pollinate the beans etc

They're grown for their flowers, which of course look good and have a nice scent. I've grown lots on my plot see my blog entry

Liza The Peas you find in sweet pea pods are poisonous. Please do not eat them!

we grow them to attract the bees in to pollinate the beans 'n' things  ;D

Hi Liza,

Once the pod starts forming if you cut it off straight away you will get more flowers.  If the plant thinks it has produced its seeds it then thinks the job is done and stops flowering so it is best to snip a pod off as soon as you see it.
