Which??
« on: July 09, 2008, 21:16:49 »
After two years of disasters with Guardman greenhouses I've decided to look for a real one but6 don't have a clue what to look for, I don't mind how big it is and as I'm due to get a good amount of inheritance in the next week or two cost isn't much of an issue...

Idea's?

Whichever type you go for - there are pros and cons for each different sort - make sure you get the largest you have space for and that you can afford.    Greenhouses are like freezers or wardrobes, no matter what size they are never big enough   ;D.   You will definately need shading and good ventilation.

Have fun.

If you go for Cedar, as we did,  I would recommend taking care of it. We didn't!

I spent some time looking for greenhouses that would withstand our sou-westerlies in the winter, and found Elite's range has additional struts to strengthen the frame.  I would agree spending as you can  - I would have loved a cedar and brick, but they proved just too expensive.

Our Alton is still going strong after 25 years. Thoroughly recommend.

And, yes, get one two or three sizes bigger than you think! And if you can, run in electricity and hot & cold running water. And equip it with a heated sand bench and removable staging. (And a heater & a decent radio!) In other words, if you can afford it, spend the money making life easy for yourself!

3 of us built a 10 X 24 ft elite at college 3 years ago, a superb piece of kit, good instructions, and plenty of rubber sealant strips/ nuts & bolts etc. Make sure you build a good base, and get plenty of louvres and roof vents!! ;)
You couldn't make it up!
