Detailed drawings needed
« on: June 30, 2008, 10:28:38 »
anyone got any idea who we would have to contact about this, we HAVE to have a design and access for all plan done.
May have the polytunnel planning permission quashed, he's gone to check but insists we have to have detailed drawings done, luckily we have the plant sale money, the raised, disabled area will have to wait  :(

no, we have to have them for the whole site, someone has complained about the fence (2.4 metres high) and the polytunnels, this has all happened since then  >:(

Oh dear.  I don't believe that you have to have the drawings professionally done.  Do you have anyone who has/can use a CAD package?  An engineer/architect/surveyor?  Or even someone who can do an accurate scale drawing by hand?   Your Planning Officer should be able to tell you what their specific requirements are.  I think in general terms you don't need permission for a fence if it's less than 1 metre next to the highway and 2 metres elsewhere.

yep, that's the problem, due to the land going up and down, some parts are 2.4 metres, we put it up to stop the vandals and theives, you'd think it was a good idea  ???
anyway, we're having a meeting to see if anyone knows of someone, there are only 12 plots, about 16 people and lots of us are either elderly or disabled, makes you wonder what the complainee was doing at the time, it borders 4 rugby pitches, no right of way is compromised and only 10 feet of it is too tall  :o

If you can't find anyone on your site or a friend or relative, could you perhaps approach a local firm of surveyors and see if they'd do it pro bono for you.  If you explained that projects like disabled access etc. would have to be put on hold if you have to fund it yourself it might make a difference.  It would be peanuts to them but mean that you wouldn't have to spend your hard-earned funds.

There are some petty-minded people around who need to get a life.  If the fence was bordering their garden or house, you could see the point but rugby pitches?

If you've a local university you could ask the civil engineering, geography, archaeology, etc depts if their students want some practise at surveying and see if you can get it done in return for supplying them with cake and tea.  It sounds that what you are after would be fairly straight forward and only require a dumpy level and some long tapes (although would be quicker with an EDM/Total Station).  Just make sure that they watch what they are walking on!

Thanks, Si D
we've found out today we don't need proper drawings so won't need to worry about them, just the 14 page planning application to go now  ;D
