Potting up chives
« on: June 23, 2008, 18:40:47 »
I've grown chives from seed for the first time and am just about to pot them up. In 3inch pots - how many chives per pot? In larger containers - what planting distance is good? Will the chives spread out from each bulb? Thanks!

Hi,  Sorry, dont have the answer but i'm hoping someone who knows will reply.   Ive started some from seed too.   I threw a few seeds in each compartment of the tray and ive just potted them on as they are.  Im just assuming that if there are too many together I will be able to split them anyway??

You'll never get rid of them now :D

The bunches grow thicker and thicker:  I split them every year.

They flower,  and self-seed everywhere.

They're very pretty,  and very tasty :)
Good gardening!

Several clumped together looks best... that's how they come up naturally..
