try eating one raw off the plant - if it's hot then yes, if it isn't then wait

Be careful though, the tip often isn't as hot as the shoulders and watch out for the seeds!

apparently that's why they're hot. animals won't touch them, but birds don't feel the heat, so they spread them far and wide in their droppings. The hot one I ate was an Antillais

Must have been said before but .............

1. Green Chillies taste green &, usually, not too hot.
2. Red Chillies taste red - warmer & hotter.
3. Seeds? Oh, yes!! Masochist??

PS After that - depends upon whether you want to taste the lovingly prepared food!!

I don't get the point of taking the seeds out. The whole idea of chillies is to make the food hot; if you remove them, then you just end up adding more of the flesh to get the heat you want.

You well know, Robert,  that you can cripple your taste buds in many ways. And you can buy Chilli seeds for that purpose. But the fruit has a real flavour - and colour. And you admit that you can't munch a chilli - because of the seeds??

I have to admit a semi-disaster. Last year, I had no 'normal' Chillies for my Apple Chutney - bought some Bird's Eye - no idea of how much to use - very hot result, but so small you can't identify them to remove them!!

Oh, well - good for the digestion??

A lot of the heat is in the pith  :)

By the way I think it is normal to cook green chillies but red ones can be eaten cooked or raw.
