update re raised bed for carrots
« on: May 19, 2008, 22:59:46 »
Just thought i would let you all know about my wooden raised bed i made for my carrots as my posting 2nd of may 2008, as it is 6ftx3ft and 20inch deep and i had to fill it! so put rotted manure at the bottom followed by shredded composted leylandii to bulk it up! then put soil dug from area around it,  finally topped by 3x60litre bags of compost which had silver sand in with it. I put in 5 rows of mixed varieties and all have germinated and growing OK will do some more sowings later to get successional crops so fingers crossed will have good carrots this year! (could also use it for parsnips) as  like carrots they don't like roots to be disturbed .bye the way thanks for the help i had on the quantities to fill it as my previous post . :)
