Why can't I be like all the others?

The advice is not to plant Tomatoes until the first flower truss shows.

First, I have never achieved this.

Second, even when put out, in full light in the cold 'house, it can be 2' before the first truss.

So WHY??

I agree Tim, I've never managed to wait that long before planting.

Someone on our site said it was to ensure that the plants are in full growth and don't get checked when they're planted, but surely cold weather would check them regardless?

Cheers,
Rob ;)

I just plant out when the soil is warm enough, no matter what hight or flowering state I have. I get bags of tomatoes, so why worry about it.

I have noticed in garden literature the word 'requires' is often used for things that may be desirable but ar far from necessities. Indeed, if you were to pay heed to much advise, you'd decide growing simple plants was too tough and not bother. I am sure many beginners mus feel put-off by this wealth of negativity.
