i'm so envious of you all
« on: May 04, 2008, 21:39:47 »
I've not long sown my toms, beans, sweetcorn etc. Because of the altitude i'm at, 1000', I couldn't get all my pots outside until now, well this coming week. So it would've been no point getting the veg done early, as i'd have no where to put them. The wind would've shredded everything i've kept over winter.  So my veg are way behind all yours. I know they'll all catch up soon. But boy do I know I moved from 150' above sea level to where i am now. The summers up here are 4-6 weeks shorter than at sea level too. Still it's nice up here, looking out over the bay way off in the distance.

Ive just sown my beans too, and you're in front of me with sweetcorn. Doing mine tomorrow. You're right the toms will catch up with the warmer weather.

Why did you move there?? Sounds idyllic thats why, lucky you :D :D :D ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Looks like you will have to grow mint to go with the lamb.

There was a guy on U tube who lived on a mountain somewhere and he collected the bodies of old fridges and freezers to grow veg in. Reckoned that the insulation kept things warm and he could put glass/plastic tops on to make a sort of cold frame.

The wind is a serious problem when you want to grow plants. Still,  you are happy with your view.

I think I could deal with late vegetables if I had a hill with a bay view! <drool, drool>

I was brought up in the Pennines and the height made a real difference...

to the ability of growing things earlier.

By the way folks, don't grow my sweetcorn outside, have to do it in the polytunnel in gro bags. Might do the 2 sisters act, beans up sweetcorn. The courgs, marrows, toms, squashs and everything else, also go in grow bags. I usually get about 50 bags.
