White mushrooms in my fresh manure
« on: April 05, 2008, 18:20:10 »
Has anyone else had this and what can I do about it.  Is it worth just digging it in or getting rid of it. My oh says they are not posionous but I am very wary of any mushrooms

I've got two different sorts growing in mine.  One is kind of yellowy and grows just under the surface - round, no stalk and with a hole in the centre, a bit like a sea squirt.  The other is quite beautiful - conventional mushroom shape, a pale creamy colour with a metallic sheen and a faint sort of snakeskin pattern.

I get loads of fungi on my plot, cue to all the organic mulch I put down. Doubtless some are edible and some aren't, but they do no harm and I just let them get on with it. They're part of the natural process of decay, and sometimes decay depends largely on them.

There is nothing to worry about fungi in manure..it will eventually die down as it has done it's part of the composting process..
