Potato maincrop spacing
« on: March 20, 2008, 13:35:34 »
Just looking out of the window at the drizzly rain and wondering if I'll get to plant any early spuds tomorrow. Anyway thinking ahead, if my raised bed is 1200mm wide and the rows between maincrop potatoes need to be 750mm will a margin of 250mm to the edging board be enough  ???

Hi There

I had to convert back to imperial!  I planted spuds in raised beds in my first year and did find that ran out of soil to earth up but I still had a good crop during the drought year.

I now use a larger area on the plot and plant the spuds in a more conventional way, just because I find them easier to earth up and harvest that way.

I am trying one early spud to a bottomless black pot (morrison specials)  this year, I have ten in a row and I have vision of pulling off the pot at harvest time to reveal just enough perfectly formed new potatoes for the four of us ;D
