Very cheap wine !
« on: March 10, 2008, 13:30:51 »
Has anyone else made wine in the same way as the turbo cider ?
Take one demi-john and add 4 litres of cheap Aldi grape juice (red or white).
Pour in about 1 lb of sugar and a teaspoon of yeast.
Pop on the airlock and wait.

Decant into sterilised wine boxes - wait some more.

Hey presto wine at 68p per litre.

Yup quite agreeable but the red seemed to take a lot longer to "mature".

Can also be done using apple juice (Tesco Basic will do).

I'm not familiar with Aldi grape juice. Does it have sugar in it?
Does it have preservative?

If you use cartons of fruit juice then look for pure fruit juice with no added sugar or preservatives particularly Potassium Sorbate (E202). Which will totally stop your fermentation, it is widely used as a preservative by the majority of fruit juice manufacturers.

I understand that grape juice is a top seller at supermarkets in Saudi Arabia.

Tesco sell something with a label "French Red Wine" at £2.38 a bottle. It's quite nice. A wine kit costs about £10 which is only a little bit cheaper - talk about cheap wine.

Is it really that easy?I must get into it how long is the wait time roughly after it has finished bubbling and popping away?
Is it best to use corks or will the screwtop bottles do the same job?And is wine yeast readilly available as i dont think we have a store nearby?

So many questions, must ask my dad as he used to make some great giggle juice!!
Cheers Steve....HIC  :P
If it ain't broke don't fix it !!
