How can I tell when yellow tomatoes are ripe?

Do they go straight from green to yellow or do they go orange first?

I'm growing two types of yellow tomatoes for the first time this year, thanks to EJ!

They have no hint of green left, they don't generally go "orange" in my experience but believe me you can tell that they are ripe, they are not as "see-through" as green tomatoes ripening through to red are at the yellow stage, if that makes any sense!!

What variety are you growing?

I only asked about the orange as one of the toms on a supposed yellow plant has gone orange (I'm excited because it's my first one that has turned from green. But I wonder if I labelled it properly!)

The varieties are Yellow Plum and Christmas Grapes. It's a Christmas Grape that's orange!
gone to pot :D

Does depend on the variety, my Balconi Yellow go yellow, my Sungold go orange. As Tenuse said they go a 'solid' yellow when ready, before that they are a bit 'watery'.

P.S. had the 1st sungold yesterday mmm-hmmm   :P
