Help.. Ideas needed for a plant bed.
« on: February 24, 2008, 19:50:25 »
At the back of my patio, I have this flower bed.

I inherited 2 blackberries, which i have rescued and built frame to hold them.

However, i have all this space in front of them.  But 8 inches below the soil its concrete  ??? ???

What kind of things could I plant to fill all this space (flowers or veg).  I have attached pictures to explain.  Its the whole length of the back fence in my garden.  Gets sun in the morning, but shaded by a tree in the afternoon from the neighbour behind me.

Hi SBG,
If you're worried that about the depth of soil, you could always make a few raised beds to allow for more depth for say root veg.
In my top garden it too only gets the morning sun. In high summer it is shaded by about 1-2pm.
In my beds I grew...
Earlies - Swift
Sweet Corn...Once the potatoes had finished
Radish
Mixed Leaf Lettuce
Beets
Onions
Using the square foot gardening method.

As you can see (my lgreenhouse is 6x4, my little raised beds aren't that big, but I grow everything very close together.

:) Net It Or You Won't Get It  :)
