I managed to get one today after years of looking.It don't like the cold, but I know it will  do over here on the Island as I have seen one in a garden I worked in once. Mine is only 1m tall and pretty straggly. But I am really pleased to get it. Strange weeping thing with nice scented flowers. Properly called Acacia pravissima


Go on tell me you've got one growing wild on your lottie ;D

Hi we have a couple of trees on the road where I live which I think are the same as those. they are flowering at the moment, and don't they smell gorgeous?  There are quite a few dotted around here in Minehead.  Are they the ones that have sensitive leaves and curl up when it rains or they are touched?

I think, if they are the same, we call them false mimosa or something similar!

It sounds as if you are mistaking mimosa for false acacia and also the sensitive plant.

Mimosa is blooming now and that is what you can smell. The sensitive plant is a house plant with similar leaves as the mimosa, I do not know its proper name, false acacia is also similar, apart from the deadly spikes it has all over its branches, not a thing you want in your garden as it also suckers everywhere.

My wattle will not flower until later.

I think you are right, false acacia, I had that in mind and couldn't make my mind out of the two.  I think this also does close the leaves in rain or when touched though!. 

The trees are too high up for me to try it out though!
