Jerusalem Artichokes
« on: January 31, 2008, 19:24:53 »
Are Jerusalem Artichokes part of root famlily? In Caroline Foleys book she says they are but on another page groups them with lettuce???

Also, it says they grow very high and form a screen, is it best therefore, not to put them in a bed with other veg - could stick them up near the shed???

Also, how much room will a balckberry bush take up...?

Blackberry depends on the variety but will need about 6' x 6' as you will need to get at it to prune/pick...
JA's are a root (the bit you eat) but are related to Sunflowers(?) anyway yes stick them out of the way or they may shade out other veg!

No need to rotate JA's, which is just as well since it's very difficult to clear a bed of them once they've got going :)
