Carnations
« on: December 09, 2007, 20:37:01 »
I got bought some carnation plugs last month. They are now all potted into 3 inch pots in my cold frame to over winter, but what next?

I have 84 of the following carnations.

Has anyone had any of these?

I will be planting about 50 on my plot for cutting flowers, but I was wondering when is the best time to plant them?
I was wondering if I could plant them after they had started to flower so I would  know what colour they were (I presume that each plant is a different colour and not mixed colour) so I could get all the same colour together? Or would they need to go into larger pots first?

Thanks in advance

Gary

I would have thought if you only potted them last month they should be OK through the winter in those pots. They will only live during the winter not really grow, when the wheather warms and they start to grow you could move them to the next size up and let them produce the first flower before planting out.
