Cut flowers (Dahlias)
« on: October 16, 2007, 03:14:43 »
Yesterday I cut some dahlias and put them in a vase, put the vase on a table, and before I turned my back the place was swarming with creepy crawlies that had jumped out of the flowerheads.

Whats the best way to get rid of these bugs, before I put them in a vase ?

To get pollen beetles out of Sweet Peas we put them in the shed away from the window and they are attracted to the light... don't think it will work with earwigs as they like to hide in the dark!

I use a bowl of cold water and sink the heads in it they mostly all come out let them drain and put in vase.
I hate earwigs just give me the creeps. But I love my dahilas,

Goodness are yours still flowering in this cold ??  :o

Yup, still flowering. Just wanted to cut the last few before the frosts start.
