Empty Broad Beans
« on: June 28, 2004, 23:07:23 »
Don't know if I'm just impatient, but broad beans have enormous pods (up to 18cm) and look nice and fat - but empty  :-[  Some I've picked have tiny little seedlet things where the beans would have been, but just didn't get going.  Someone told me these would never have come to anything, but I'm wondering if the others which do have beans of sorts in them, will ever ripen up?  My mate on next allotment has been picking same variety sown about same time for weeks now  :(
There'll be years for cooking and cleaning - get yer wellies on!

I found quite a lot of mine came up 'blind', don't know why. Some had big juicey beans -but some had nothing; they were all in the same row(s) -maybe some on the same plant. I was wondering if it was the dry spell we had?
