Next year's spuds
« on: October 07, 2007, 22:56:21 »
The catalogues have arrived, and I know this could well be a provocative question, but here goes.

Two I'll always grow as "new" potatoes
First Early - Belle de Fontenay, a great waxy salad I've grown most years and it's never failed
Main Crop - Pink Fir Apple - obviously, I just love it

For proper spuds I'm thinking of Lady Balfour and one of the Sarpos

Has anyone out there tried these, especially the Sarpo?  Are they as good as they say regarding slug damage?  How about blight?  Both are meant to be quite resistant and I don't spray.

Sarpos are good - no holes whatsoever.
When I first tried, the flavour wasn't up to much and someone on here said flavour improved with storage.
