I just came to this section to make a similar suggestion - so that's two votes already - a 'eating what we grow' section would be great - and to include preserving what we grow as well please!

HEY!!!! After I wondered about this last night - 'spect you've all seen Suze's alternative recipes for green beans??? :P - I came here to find that you-all'd beaten me to it...

BB, like you, I'm gonna experience a glut of witlof (endive for the non-conoscenti) very soon...(thanks Ina for the seeds) and I'm currently having gluts of carrots ( EarlyNantes 2, successively sown, so they can't be left in the ground)...I've some nice Italian recipes to share, but would welcome other suggestions...

Seems to me that, as we grow veggies to eat, a  cooking page would be a logical extension??

Cheers! 'Lishka

I would second a cookery/glut section as well, although it may be difficult to come up with alternative recipes for sprouts  ::)

Sprouts - I like them stir fried with spring onions, ginger and flaked almonds + veg stock. Or with toasted sesame seeds. There was quite a bit on them on the Food board a while ago.

We always used to bottle carrots - they look lovely - but don't know whether it's advised in these EU days!

Like the idea of food here - gardeners talking rather than cookery buffs. - Tim

on a totally different tack -

please, will anyone volunteering recipes for preserves give the 'keep until date'?

Even the professionals are useless on this. And today, Conran tells you how to make 5lb of pickle - it has to be kept in the fridge (fat lot of good that is?) and consumed within 2-3 weeks once opened!! Oh,well, at least it's not fattening.  - Tim

Great idea.

Does anyone have a recipe for pickling shallot's in white vinegar?  Years, ago, I used to pickle my onions this way and then went and lost the recipe :-/
