Topical applications for hens.
« on: July 30, 2007, 09:33:39 »
I've had a red mite outbreak. >:(  I've got the chicken shed under reasonable control now...not wanting to jinx myself by saying any more than that. :-X

My chooks have been living in a separate pen whilst I've been sorting out their digs. I don't feel I want to send them back in there without some treatment as they defo have the little b's on them. I picked a couple of the hens up to inspect and although I couldn't see any critters around their egg ducts or on their legs I'm sure there were critters caught up in their feathers.

I'm scratching now just thinking about it !

you wont generally see them on the birds... I think duramitex is something that was recommended.... take a look at the pekinbantams.com website on the health pages.

Thanks OO.

I found a powder on the domestic fowl trust's website which is for use on the birds. "Red Mite Repellant powder" It is soil association certified. I thought I'd give it a go.
