shriveled potatoes

just got my first plot which came with an old delapidated shed, inside this shed there is a sack with a load of what look like shrivelled sprouting potatoes, i might sound thick but are these any use? can they be planted and if so how and when? cheers shaun

It sounds as these can only be a forgotten stored crop from last year.  They won`t be earlies, because earlies wouldn`t have kept so long in those surroundings.  If they are second earlies they will have already missed the cropping date as the nights are now getting too long for tuber initiation in  seond earlies.  However, if they are late maincrop, such as Cara, Valor or Victoria they would dstill have a chance of making some growth (especially if the present weather conditions continue) before the night length reaches the stage where tuber initiation is invoked and they might well produce a small crop as long as the blight doesn`t catch them.  If you`ve got a bit of cleared ground and nothing else to put in it`s always worth a try.
