Bruce Bogtrotter Chocolate Cake

Gene's birthday cake.  ;D

Looks a bit messy as didn't want to move it onto clean plate once the girls had covered it so apologies for that. Does taste divine though.
The recipe is from the 'Revolting Recipes' cook book. All the recipes are based on food from Roald Dahl stories. This is from Matilda.

225g good quality plain choc
6oz unsalted butter
8oz castor sugar
4 tbsp plain flour
6 eggs, separated

For the coating

225g good quality plain choc
225g double cream

Preheat oven to 180c, 350f, gas 4
Grease and line 8" cake tin
melt choc in bowl over pan.
Mix in butter and stir till melted
Add flour, sugar and egg yolks
Whisk egg whites till stiff
Gently fold in half the egg white, mixing thoroughly
Fold in remaining egg white
Cook for approx 35 mins. The cake will form a crust on top and will appear insufficiently cooked when skewered. It does set as it cools.
Leave to cool in the tin on wire rack.
When cool enough to handle, turn out onto wire rack.
To cover : Melt choc in bowl ver pan and add the cream. Mix thoroughly.
Allow to cool a little before spreading onto cake.
The cake will probably sink in the middle so turn it over to cover.
Use palette knife to spread choccy mix over cake.
Allow to set in cool place before serving.

This is the second time I have made this cake. This time I left the cake overnight before covering and it was much more effective as cake seemed to have firmed up much more.

Me and the girls had ice cream with ours with the coating still warm. Yum yum - bleurgh.  ;D

It is not a lot of flour Cam. The cake is held together by pure unadulterated calories!!! It is more of a giant squashy brownie really.  ;D
