Cyclanthera explodens

Anybody else growing these oddballs from Realseeds.







I thought they were a more vigorous climber than they actually are and strings will be better for them to climb than canes but otherwise they seem pretty hardy in spite of their delicate appearance. While the fruits look fierce, the spikes are soft and can be eaten raw when the size of a cherry. Taste is of mild cucumber.

For those of you who have not seen these before, when the fruit is ripe it explodes scattering the very expensive seeds all over the place. After it has exploded, the fruit can then be cooked. Mine are not ripe yet.
