Riffster - hope you had a good day at work?

Back to the brick wall - Daughter now has the same problem in trying to establish a shortcur for Photobucket. The ion is there but it jsut gets the stupid little box at the top.

Works fine on my side.

She has her own account which I just opened for her.

Too many icons on your desktop can eventually slow down your PC whens its starting up(or so Ive been told)

I just have this site and photobucket etc on my favourites.
You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose

Disappeared after a while on my account but is now plagueing Daughter.

I always put links into the "Bookmarks" on Firefox. I also got to the stage where I had too many icons on screen so I made a new folder called "Tidy Screen" and put the ones which I do not use so much in there.

Well, I may not be going down the right track but we're getting somewhere.

1. Yes - the icon is similar.
2. No- I don't recognise such tabs.
3. BUT - I finally stopped the icon in its tracks by clicking on the e rather than elsewhere.
The M changed through h (http?) to i (first letter of the photobucket account name?)
Since the icon is now fixed, I exited the 'option box'
4. If I now click on the i, I go into a whole page, headed with the account name & with the correct URL address, but no content.
5. If I click GO on the address, it takes me straight to the account.

So, curiouser & curiouser? A rather lengthy way to get there!!

Any advance??

Tim,

I'm sure that you do not want to hear this, but just in case you want to cut your losses .. I do not use shortcuts at all.

Instead, I have my own home page which comes up whenever I go into the browser (Internet Explorer in my case). It contains links to all the sites that I use regularly. You simply click on the desired link. The page is set up using Microsoft Word (I am sure that other word processing systems will do similar). It is a fairly straightforward process. I have recently written a quick guide for a friend which I could let you have if you are interested.

Would love to give it a go, Bak - although I'm hooked on the simplicity of icons, & the stupid photobucket site can always be reached via Favourites. It just erks me that its shortcut doesn't work.

Tim,

I am out mostly tomorrow (Tues) but will try to get something to you on Wed. If you can PM me details of a handful of sites (say 4) that you want to access, including their URLs I could produce a skeleton home page for you to go with the guide. Let me have your email address so that I can get the stuff to you.

Bak - truly grateful to you - & Riffster - for such careful prompting, but I think that I must take a rain check on the matter. Daughter is V conservative & doesn't want to break away from her desktop layout. She's happy to go the long way around until the machine sorts itself out like it did for me.

As I say, the thing that irks - not erks as above! - is that exactly the same process gives me a useable shortcut on my account but not on hers.

Thank you both hugely. I hope you won't be put off from helping out in the future.

= Tim

Tim,

have you checked the run setting (alias the window sizing) for IE?

Eg right-click the IE icon on the task bar (bottom left-hand corner usually) .. click on properties .. click on the shortcut tab .. the run box should be set to "normal window" .. if not then set it to normal window .. click ok.

If it was not set to normal window then you may have to recreate your shortcuts .. and there is no guarantee that your problem wont reappear - you may have some piece of software that is causing the problem or you may (inadvertently) be inducing it yourself.

Tim,

NOW, I'm not suggesting this at all.

But another cause of similar problems to this are viruses and malware.

Keep an eye out for strange other occurrences.

I don't want to worry you - but I did want to mention it to us all.

Tim,

sorry to pepper you with this .. I found this variation to what I said on the web.

"Right click the shortcut icon for IE next to the Start button, choose Properties, change it from 'normal' to 'maximized'. Now open it.
Now right click any link on the page, choose Open In New Window....don't maximize it....instead, use the mouse to resize it to what you want it to be.
Now close the FIRST window you opened, and then close the new one you just resized.
Reopen IE from the shortcut icon again, and all windows from now on will be the size you chose and created. "

Bak - noted again.

Riffster - indeed - nothing shows up on a virus search.

But now - who's playing games? ALL my shortcuts are working again........??
