First Spud!
« on: June 08, 2004, 09:42:40 »
After much worry if my spuds in containers were to tall, or there was something wrong with them, I had another dig around and came out with a decent sized (3 inch?) spud!

I'm very excited, and planning on harvesting later in the week. I hope there's loads and loads  :D :D

Moggle - you've made me feel more confident about mine. I was worrying they were too tall and had just grown up rather than producing spuds. They still haven't flowered.

When did you plant them? Had they flowered yet?
gone to pot :D

Thanks Tim.

Aqui, I planted them around the 13th March. One pot of two had a couple of flowers, it's on the south-facing balcony. They are Charlottes, which are a second early, but if the rest of the spuds are the same size as the one I dug up, they will be fine for me and the husband.

I'm becoming even more excited, determined to have an a proper allotment next year  :D

Moggle, if you don't get yourself an allotment soon your balcony will fall of the building!  ;D  And if you can grow that much on 2 balconies, just think what you would grow on a full sized allotment!!!!  ;D ;D

Great news Moggle.  Keeping everything crossed for more successes for you.  :)

Thanks all.

EJ I rekon I could fit even more on there if I tried really hard. Strawbs in hanging baskets, window boxes hung off the balcony railing. Wooden shelving etc.  ;D ;D

Harvested one container of spuds on friday night and got 1.5 kilos (3 pounds?) of spuds!  ;D ;D ;D

Enough for 2 nights worth of very generous serves for myself and Mr Moggle for dinner, and some for the lovely salad that we made, and ate by the Thames on Sunday (lovely sunny day). They were delicious! :) :P

Excellent Moggle, congrats!  Couldn't ask for a nicer spud eating atmosphere!  ;D
