Apple scab on Cox
« on: May 31, 2007, 22:23:51 »
I was really pleased last week to see a good fruit set on my apples. I have 2 Cox's Orange Pippin, one Katy and one Bramleys seedling. Imagine my disappointment tonight when I took a walk through them to find that my two Cox's are covered in Scab. So far the other two trees appear to be clear. Does anyone have any advice on how to prevent or slow down the spread of this disease or do I have to watch my lovely apples slowly defoliate as the weeks pass by?

When I worked for commercial growers (years ago) we used to spray apples with an unbelievable cocktail of pesticides to keep pests and diseases at bay, especially Cox's as they appeared to be more prone to problems. The reason I chose this variety for my garden is the excellent flavour.

Please help!
Anthony
