hi Jemma, have fun with your new plot, dont worry about annoying the neighbours, i have found most allotmenteers are really happy to help new people.  do a bit at a time and keep at it.  as others have said, its probably a good idea to buy some plants now to put in, things like squash and sweetcorn and stuff. i would also reccommend going to the library and getting a good book out on the subject for a bit of bedtime reading.   :)
