My Caroline Foley book says it's not too late to sow "fast-growing" peas. Which varieties would you recommend?

I keep sowing peas until end of June. Will be sowing Greensage, and Alderman if I have any, and also some mangetout. But will sow them in a shadier part of the site, as it's getting a bit hot for them now.

You can grow Kelvedon wonder! mine are doing well and can be planted over summer!

we've just planted 2 more rows of lincoln into guttering, hanging in the fruit cage..as long as the rain doesn't wash them out, they'll go in where the early spuds come out of :)

For yield and flavour it has to be Alderman, no contest. This is the only maincrop pea that I grow nowadays and I will continue sowing at approx 3 week intervals until I run out of seeds.

This year I'm trying a mange tout called Carouby de Mausanne but until they are on my plate I cannot reccomend them. They are growing well though. There is no such thing as too many peas so keep planting.

We are in our third year growing 'Carouby de Mausanne', great cropper and lovely sweet flavour 8)
This year's seedlings still in pots but growing away strongly, will put them out in next 2/3 weeks then sow another batch to crop 'back-end' (Sept/Oct)
Last years plants withstood the very warm/dry Summer very well.

Our Sugar Snap Peas have been a total failure this year, some seeds 'gone' (Mice ?) some rotted away and a few germinated then 'fell over' .... shall not bother re-sowing this year as 'Carouby' is doing so well.

I did a second sowing of Ne Plus Ultra and Purple Podded a couple of weeks ago. These are tall maincrop varieties like Alderman, and are slower than earlies, which will be OK for weeks yet.

We have a range of tall mains... alderman, purple podded, Magnum Bonum and Ne plus Ultra... but get best results later in the season from the oregon mangetout.

Carouby de Mausanne is my favourite `mangetout`. Alderman is also very good but I still prefer Hurst Greenshaft-a close call though

As Saddad knows, I've been caught out with the height of my Purple Podded peas!

I saved the seeds from last years crop, they only grew to 3 foot high so I was expecting the same from them this year and only gave them large pea sticks for support.......they are up to five foot high already and have had to be hastily restaked!!

I'm going to sow some more from a different supplier in a few weeks when I'll hopefully have some room...... ;D

I would very interested to hear more about any regular peas that grow high please,I was only aware of Alderman.Also would I have time if I can find a source and plant some.

I am trying mange tout Carouby de Mausanne for the first time too

Don't forget SugarSnaps ... 'Suga Crystal' from Dobies:D

And I'm also growing the PetitPois 'Waverex' delicious ;D

Jeannine ,I am growing ' Show perfection' ( Kings/Robinsons) expecting 5 foot
have grown 'Prew's pea(King Tut) reached 6 foot.

I got the Perfection one,found a site called Robinsons...oh more seeds too.

I cannot find the other one though only a sweet pea called King Tut.

Just took my first picking tonight of Pilot an early pea suited for overwintering. Sown 2nd Feb in pots and planted out on the 25th Feb. Photo below taken 8 days ago and they've grown quite a bit since then and now completely hide my van.

The wigwam to the right of the picture is Alderman maincrop up and running.
