Pea fertilising problem!
«

Hi everyone, just registered today so apologies if I dont do this right!
I have grown peas on my allotment for the last couple of years and suffered losses with the pea moth where the maggot got there before I did. This year we bought a long run of very fine mesh to foil the little b****ers and have covered the lot.
The first lot planted have just started to flower and I suddenly thought, how will the bees get access to pollinate the flowers? or do they need to? will I have a long row of lovely foliage with no pods.
Help please! ???

Hi, fran..welcome to the forum, don't worry, there'll be someone along soon who knows what they're talking about, I can't even remember if they're self fertile or not ;D

Peas can self pollinate easily, so they don't need insects, but if insects are around, they'll help the process.

Just so.. they actually pollinate before the flowers open, so no problem with the fleece....
helps save your own seed as well as they don't cross with others...
;D
