Garlic problems
« on: June 01, 2004, 08:01:31 »
Hello Everyone,

I'm 9 months into my first allotment (& still amazed at the speed weeds can grow!)

Planted garlic in the autumn, seemed fine and growing strong, but lifted a couple of random ones yesterday to check & they havn't swollen out, just look like oversized spring onions, both straight.  Worked in plenty of compost when planting.  Any tips or ideas on whats gone wrong?

Cheers

That old word - patience??
Although some varieties ripen by May-June, most are not ready till August. So stay around a bit? = Tim

Lifted one of mine more because it had terrible rust and I wanted to see if it affected the bulbs - which it doesn't seem to have, thankfully.  Mine are just begining to swell, hope the rust doesn't kill 'em dead.  :-[
