New life.. New pond!
« on: May 11, 2007, 15:20:00 »
We've purchased a house in France and are planning on moving there permanently at the end of the year..

The house comes with a very large pond, and I wanted some advice from the experts!

Apparently the pond is 3 metres deep
it has a very large circumference and is fed by a stream that runs under the house, and out into another stream (that flows throughh the middle of a small field, also ours)

Could any of you recommend, how, if we purchased some animals for the pond we could keep them in? We're looking at having koi or large goldfish and keeping it purely ornamental (no fishing on MY land hehe!!), but if we spend all the money getting the water checked and cleaned a, and then getting the pond stocked up, theres obviously a risk they'll swim away... Could anyone recommend some sort of grate we could purchase to put on the streams that enter and exit the pond? (This would also hopefully stop the dogs from going exploring so much...

Once this dilemma is resolved, what livestock would you recommend to stock the pond?

It's all very exciting, and the hope is it the pond will become an integral part of our lives... So any advice would be really appreciated
