Pumpkin roots?
« on: May 07, 2007, 23:40:15 »
How deep do they go?

Do you get extra roots if you bury part of the stalk?

Anybody got any growing enormous ones? (apart from loads of manure)
I've got a couple of Atlantic Giant plants which I haven't planted on my allotment yet.

I don't think they go all that deep, when I've pulled them up at the end of the season they come out quite easily so the roots aren't too deep. I've never planted them deeper to produce new roots, always worried they might rot if the stems are buried. Apparently feeding them with liquid tomato feed helps to grow huge pumpkins. :)

Thanks for the tomato feed tip.  :D

I'm going to make up a special compost mix for them, so I won't need
to mix it in too deep then.

I can't give away any secrets, as my mate may be watching.
We are having our own little competition to grow the biggest.

It's my first attempt at growing a huge one. :o

The breeze blocks look like a good way of deterring the slugs.
