I,m thinking of putting a grape vine in my greenhouse. Any advice on which variety and how to grow etc?

In Essex I would grow it outside unless you want an old Sweet Muscat grape... I grow Regent outside on a south facing wall with good results. If you don't keep it well pruned it will crowd out all but the largest greenhouses. Lakemont is a well recommended white seedless grape which should crop well in Essex outside, I'm going to try one when I see one happy this far North...

I live in southport, which is approx. 30 miles north of Liverpool. I grow a line of              Phoenix outside with a line of Rondo grapes alongside. No protection with a south facing wall, they are pruned hard each year and along with a small line of Seyval Blanc I pick copious bunches og grapes from all three. I also have to thin the bunches as they fruit so excessively. So next time you feel that yiu wish to grow grapes, don't be too sensitive to the vines, try these varieties and within three years you will impress your neighbours..

Variety is a personal choice,google for suppliers and see what you fancy.

As to growing in a greenhouse-plant it at the opposite end to the door(assuming it only has one door) and then train up and along the eave. You will need to prune hard once it`s established but that is no bad thing

Thanks for your help. I am new to greenhouse growing  - the glass has only been in for a fortnight, but I fancy doing something different. Planning to try melons as well!

I have a grape vine in my green house, they say put the roots outside the greenhouse which I did 10 years ago was loaded with grapes last year, had to thin out a lot, (a black grape rescued from a building site from under a load of bricks)

I have a grape, don't know which variety, its roots are outside the cold greenhouse and its surprising how far it has advanced in comparison to the outside. We use the leaves for stuffing (dolmas) and they are big enough for the first cut this weekend

You wouldn't if you saw it LOL. it is wooden, 30 years old with a 30 year old grape at one end.We expect it to blow down every winter but so far it is still standing even though the wood is rotten and held together by silicone now,it's about 8X14 .Actually I think there is more silicone than wood. Still has an old clinker floor . I can get quite a lot of melons in there,so it pays it's way bless it. XX Jeannine

I grow them in greenhouse and get a very good crop every year i think they are Boskop glory but could be wrong.
