Finally started

Wahay!!!!!

Have finally started on my lottie for this year.   For those of you that don't know, I got burnt last year in a house fire & have not been allowed near my lottie whilst I healed.   My burns specialist has had me on a strick "keep clean" regime & totally forbade me to go near the plot until he was happy my new skin on my face, neck & hands had set enough.   I've still got to be careful with my skin so have taken to wearing gloves on my hands and carrying wet wipes to quickly swish over my face etc.

So last weekend I was like a kid let loose in a candy store.   Dad & I (although mainly Dad) did a lot of heavy work involving the rotovator, strimmer and lawn mower.   Dad got a good portion of the plot ready for cultivation whilst I attacked the plot lawn.   Since then I've been down several times and got my beds in position & after finishing nightshift yesterday went down and did another hour and half before heading to bed.   The greenhouse is currently full to overflowing of freshly sown seeds and seedlings & my seed potatoes are currently waiting for me at the post office 'cos they tried to deliver them whilst I was away in the land of nod.

Surprisingly (to me anyway) despite not being able to do any preparation on the plot over winter it wasn't as bad as I expected and I actually feel quite refreshed and ready to tackle it, bindweed including.   I found myself today with a small audience curious to know what I was doing.   Cos I do square foot gardening I spent the time this morning tying baler band around my bed edges to mark out the square foot spaces.   The other advantage is that next year I just need to pick up the bed frames & move them to their new home.   There is still a lot of work to do but I can barely wait for next week 'cos then I'll be off down again, complete with flask and sandwiches.

I'll try and get some piccies posted of the plot as things progress but first I need to find where the camera got stored after last year's events.

good luck carrot cruncher it must be lovely to get back out there getting dirty again.  it must have been very distressing for you. my friend burned her hands quite badly a few years ago with hot wax and i know the agony she endured just with that. so go for it and enjoy, but take care. :)

Congrats CC.  So sorry to hear of your accident, but glad to hear that you're on the mend and back on the plot with a passion.  We take the little things in life for granted don't we ?

Glad you're back and wish you the happiest of growing seasons !

CC, I am so sorry to hear of your accident but so glad that you are back on the plot now.  It must have been a frustrating time for you and I am sure the pleasure of being back there was immense!  Glad that your plot was not too bad and you will soon be sorted again.  Hope you get lots of wonderful veggies. :)

CC - sorry to hear about your accident, and it's great to read how you're getting back to the lottie now (I - almost - feel inspired to put a bit more into mine  ;D)   Characterful looking dog btw - is he on the plot with you?

I use Showa gloves... they are very good, fine enough to let you do things but tough enought to keep out muck.. developed for assembly workers..
Glad you are on the mend!

Ellkebe

The pic is of our old dog Sam who died September 2006 aged twelve physically but six months mentally!!!!   Although he was an alsation cross great dane he had the temperament of a teddy bear.   Size wise he was on par with a shetland pony & had matching appetite.   He used to love spending time on the lottie with Dad & I and loved to lay on the newly-tilled earth!!!

No need to rush your plot. Do what you can when you can as long as you enjoy it. (& keep kicking your dads butt down the plot when you need a hand) ;D ;D ;D
All you do and all you see is all your life will ever be
