Ideas for quick mulch?
« on: April 30, 2007, 20:15:03 »
The forecast is showing yet another five days of wall to wall sunshine ahead. :( If we ever get a decent amount of rain I'd like to think I could make the most of it by mulching to keep the moisture in, but I haven't really got any organic material left. What would you suggest for a quick and effective (andpreferably free or cheap) cover on both planted and unplanted areas? and are spent hops any good, as I've seen some on freecycle?

Can't speak highly enough of spent hops!  As long as you can lay it thick and stand the smell ::) ::)
Make sure it's nice and wet in the sacks, if not soak it well and truly before you put it on.
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

Ooh, goody- must get onto them quick! And since I live in a town with 3 breweries, might go in search of more. My car will smell like a brewery by the time I'm done!

Just make sure with a quick call to the brewery that they are using hops and not pellets in their latest brew!
