I've found what I think are 6 self seeded sunflowers, don't know where they've come from, maybe birds, i've dug up and transplanted 4 of the bigger plants..should i leave the rest or will the cold weather we have coming kill them off ?

Hi Manics
I always get lots of self seed sunflowers on my plot and find it really hard to dig them up. I am always amazed at how hardy they are.

it's wierd, isn't it, we're so careful not to plant them outside and these little things are perfectly o.k. outside, just got to keep them safe from the slugs now ;D

We always get dozens under the bird feeder but none ever get to a size, slugs trampling or lawnmower sorts them out...

I remember when I put the bird table in the middle of the lawn. A sunflower from the seed grew in the lawn - it was very leggy, but I potted it up. It grew to about 6inches, and had a really tiny pretty flower on it - very amusing!

One year when I had grown some sunflowers in a line, I found lots of tiny ones that had self seeded that were coming up beside them. I was amazed to see them all, as I take such care with the ones I pot and these had done the growing without any care whatever. busy_lizzie
